Facts and practical information
Museum of Milling and Agriculture in Osieczna - a private museum located in Osieczna, run by a company based in Leszno, owned by Jaroslaw Jankowski. Until 2012 it operated as Museum of Agriculture and Milling in Rydzyna.
The museum is housed in two of the three windmills from the second half of the eighteenth century that survived from a group of several buildings of this type located on Szubienica Hill, on the road to Leszno. The exhibits are located in windmills "Franciszek" and "Józef-Adam". The museum was established in 2012 on the initiative of the Jankowski family, and earlier, in 2007, the buildings were renovated.
In the Windmill "František" there is an exhibition of historical and ethnographic memorabilia from the area of Wielkopolska, Lower Silesia and Lubusz Land. It contains old tools, objects of everyday use, folk costumes and folk art. Whereas in the "Joseph-Adam" windmill the historic interior of the mill has been recreated, retaining the original equipment and facilities.
Visits to the museum are possible by prior arrangement. The museum also organizes history lessons and open air painting and sculpting workshops.
During the Wielkopolska Uprising, on January 8, 1919, an armed clash between the insurgent army and the German army, called the "Battle of the Windmills", took place near the area of today's museum. The fights ended with the success of Polish forces.
