Fort IV - Janówek
Facts and practical information
Fort IV - one of the forts of the Modlin Fortress, erected by the Tsar as part of the construction of the first ring of forts in the 1880s.
The fort is located in the village of Janówek. It was built to close the section of the fortress between the Narew and Vistula rivers, i.e. from the east. The basis for its design was the model fort "F1879". It was a brick and earth fortification with two ramparts: for artillery and infantry. During the modernization of the fort the ceilings of the structures were reinforced with concrete, and the construction of new concrete caponiers and half-caponiers in the moat was planned. However, they were not built, probably due to the lack of funds and change of plans for the fort.
During the modernization of the fortress in 1912-1915 the fort was included in the "Janówek" Fort Group as a back-up facility. Therefore its combat functions were limited.
Brick barracks, numerous shelters and a brick neck caponier remain today.
