Park Zdrojowy, Jastrzębie-Zdrój
Facts and practical information
Dr. Mikołaj Witczak Spa Park in Jastrzębie-Zdrój - a public municipal park in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, located in the Zdrój district, between 1 Maja and Witczak Streets. Originally, it was the central point of the Jastrzębie sanatorium, created in the second half of the 19th century. It was where most of the sanatorium buildings were built, many of which have remained as monuments to this day. After World War II, works took place in the Spa Park in order to rebuild and clean it. The works were supervised by the Polish-Soviet Friendship Society. On 22 July 1955 a ceremony took place, during which the renovated park was put into use for patients and given the name of Polish-Soviet Friendship. This "event" is commemorated by a stone obelisk, which can still be found in the Spa Park. Today it is the largest park in the city, one of the largest parks in the Silesian province with an area of 18 ha.
Over the years, many species of plants have been brought to the park, including: western redcedar, Japanese Japanese redcedar, European redcedar, Douglas-fir, American white pine, acetic sumac, rare chestnut, ginkgo biloba, and yellow locust. There are also species popular in Europe, such as the European Birch and the European Hornbeam.
