Kościół Parafii Ewangelicko‐Augsburskiej
Facts and practical information
Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Rybnik - a church of the Evangelical-Augsburg Parish in Rybnik. It is located at Miejska Street, in Rybnik, in the province of Silesia.
The first church was built in 1791 according to the project of architect Franz Ilgner from the former castle net house, which was previously used to store and dry fishing nets. After 5 years the church burned down and was rebuilt and served evangelicals until 1853, when it was again consumed by fire. In the same year it was rebuilt and this brick church is still in use today. The Neo-Romanesque tower, at the front facade on the north side, was added to the church building in 1875.
Inside there is one storey of galleries and modest but original equipment in the late Baroque style. The church has a wooden ceiling, semicircular windows, a pulpit altar, and galleries supported by quadrilateral pillars. In the altar there is a copy of Bernard Plockhorst's painting "Christ and the Prodigal Son", made in the second half of the 19th century.
