Czoło
Facts and practical information
Czoło - a peak in the Pieniny Proper, in the eastern part of the Czorsztyńskie Pieniny.
It is an unconfined, easternmost peak of the main ridge of the Czorsztyn Pieniny. From the west it neighbors with Łączna in this ridge, while in the east the Szopka Pass separates it from Trzy Korony. The ridge has two tops - the higher eastern and the lower western which is the keystone for the north-branching ridge of Wysoki Dział. A little further to the west, near the Zakoczy Pass, is the keystone for the south-oriented ridge of Nowa Góra. Such a location at the meeting point of the ridges spreading to four sides causes that the slopes are drained by four streams flowing through the valleys separating these ridges. The northern slope - the most gently sloping - descends to the valley of the Pieniny Stream, the northwestern slope of the western top descends to the valley of the Zagroński Stream, the southwestern to the Za Kocioł gorge. From the southern side the slopes descend steeply to the Szopczański Gorge and two valleys: the Za Kocioł Gorge separating Czoło from the New Mountain and the Pod Kopą valley separating Czoło from the Three Crowns. These valleys merge at the Rojowa Skala, which is the southern end of the Czoło, and streams flowing down them feed the Szopczański Potok.
The main peak itself as well as the southern slope is covered with forest, however just below it and under the culmination of the keystone peak there are numerous clearings: Wielka Dolina and Wydziorki on the northern slopes and Toporzyskowo on the southern side of the main Pieniny Ridge. The whole peak is situated in the area of the Pieniny National Park.
