Facimiech

Facimiech - a group of rock walls in the Łysina massif in the Pieniny Proper. It is a wild rock cliff in the upper part of the southwestern slope of Łysina descending directly to the Dunajec River. Together with Łysina and Klejowa Góra it forms the Łysina group. It descends to the Dunajec with very steep and almost bare walls with a total height of about 330 m. They are built of erosion resistant limestone rocks. Cutting into them the Dunajec river creates here the Pienińskie Gorge. Facimiech together with the top of the Klejowa Mountain form an advanced promontory, which the Dunajec flows around from three sides creating several gorges. The walls of Facimiech are one of the main scenic attractions during the rafting. The rafters on the walls of Facimiech show tourists the silhouette of an eagle and a nun. There are legends associated with them. At the foot of Facimiech there is Ostra Skała and Grabczychy.

Facimiech is one of the few places in Poland where rare insects occur: Exoprosopa cleomene and Raphidia ulrike. In the walls of Facimiech, thanks to their inaccessibility, the largest colony of a very rare species of juniper savina in the Pieniny Mountains has survived, as well as a unique community of mosses and a locality of European cornflower. There were also found such plant species that are rare in Poland as: yellow cornflower, Styrian panicle, bentgrass, spider mite, and tartar oxeye daisy.

The name of the rock comes from a clearing located nearby, at an altitude of 480-540 m. Sometimes the name Facimiech is used for the whole peninsula or the Łysina massif. In the steep walls of Facimiech there are several shallow caves and grottos, including the Cave in Facimiech. Just above the waters of the Dunajec River there is a large niche where the rafters used to hide from the storm and rain. Higher up, in a hard to reach place, there is a shallow Nun's Shelter.

No tourist trail leads through it. It is well visible from the side of Sromowce Niżne.
