Izba Regionalna w Śliwnicy
Facts and practical information
Slivnica Regional Chamber - a museum and educational facility in Slivnica.
The Chamber was established at the beginning of the 1990s on the initiative of Danuta Śliwińska, who wanted to "save from oblivion the history enchanted in handicraft and old objects of everyday use". One of the rooms in the former school building in Śliwnica, built during the Austrian partition, was used to house the Chamber.
Over the years, the collection of exhibits has been gradually expanded, and in 1994 it was named the Regional Chamber. Thanks to the kindness of people from the Dubiecko community and the surrounding area, the collection numbers over 1000 exhibits, which occupy two classrooms. In the Chamber, one may see exhibits of various crafts, such as: carpentry, shoemaking, blacksmithing, cooperage, weaving, baking, dairy, pottery, etc. as well as other tools used in the past in the countryside, educational exhibits from the interwar period, and handicrafts made by local artists. Special acquisitions include a loom, quern and threshing machine. Within the Chamber there are educational paths: bakery and weaving, an important element of which are weaving looms, one of the few in the Podkarpackie province.
In 2008 weaving workshops entitled "From seed to cloth" were organized on the basis of the weaving educational path. "From seed to cloth" was organized on the basis of the weaving educational path. The workshop was financed from the Post-accession Rural Development Programme and 411 people took part in it. As the need arises, various events take place in the Regional House: among others, bonfires with music, competitions, e.g. embroidery and other handicrafts. There are also trips from primary and secondary schools, as well as tourists from Poland and abroad.
Danuta Sliwinska has been the caretaker and guide of the Chamber exhibits since its inception.
