Facts and practical information

Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zlotorya - a Roman Catholic temple dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zlotorya. The church has a special place in the history and architecture of Z這toryja. It is one of only twenty urban parish churches in Silesia whose origins date back to the first half of the 13th century. It is very likely that even before 1211, i.e. in the first decade of the 13th century, the inhabitants of Z這toryja began to build a church in the center of the settlement. This was the earliest place in Poland where several architectural elements were used, e.g. masvellas. The construction of the church was patronized by Henry the Bearded, who granted Z這toryja town rights in 1211. The church owes its powerful shape to the knightly order of the Joannits. Portals, a Renaissance pulpit, epitaphs, galleries and altars from the 17th and 18th centuries attract attention. From the top of the tower one can admire the panorama of the town, the Kaczawskie Foothills, the Kaczawskie Mountains and the Karkonosze; the town bugle call can be heard from here. An exhibition on the history of the church and the Renaissance school of Valentin Trozendorf also invites you inside. The symbolic tombstone of this most prominent Z這toryja citizen is located in the presbytery.
