Facts and practical information
Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church - a Roman Catholic parish and convent church of the Felician Sisters located in Kraków, District I at 6 Smoleńsk Street, Nowy Świat.
It was built in the years 1882-1884 according to the design of Felix Księżarski. It was intended for the Felician Sisters displaced from the Russian partition after the fall of the January Uprising. Next to it, in a cottage in the garden, functioned Sister Salomea's Student Kitchen run by the nuns.
The church was built in the Neo-Romanesque style, is a pseudo-basilica, has empires. Its tower is decorated with a golden crown, after the example of the St. Mary's Church. In the church itself there is a tomb of Blessed Mother Angela, founder of the Felician congregation.
In 1931, in exchange for the farm in Tyniec, the Felician Sisters ceded part of the garden at the corner of Straszewskiego and Zwierzyniecka streets - at that time a Catholic House with a "Dawn" cinema was built on this spot, and today it houses a philharmonic hall.
