Praia de Monte Gordo, Monte Gordo
Facts and practical information
Monte Gordo Beach is a seaside beach located in the parish of Monte Gordo, municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, Algarve, Portugal. It is one of the main tourist resorts of the Algarve. It has surveillance and support equipment throughout the bathing season. The village of Monte Gordo, adjacent to the beach, has a wide range of hotels, shops, restaurants, casino and nightlife throughout the year.
"These are the warmest and safest waters in Portugal," say the residents of Monte Gordo. In fact, the presence of lifeguards is constant throughout the year, but it's in July and August that this part of the coast fills up with holidaymakers. The beach is occupied by a dozen or so bars and esplanades. Vestiges of the bourgeois charm that once distinguished it as one of the most select bathing areas in the country are still visible in the neighborhoods with villas and the small casino. The most recent urbanizations have deprived it of its character irreversibly.
