Festival Nacional de la Quenepa

The Festival Nacional de la Quenepa is a vibrant annual celebration held in Ponce, Puerto Rico, that highlights the beloved quenepa (genip) fruit, the city's official fruit. This three-day event typically occurs over a weekend in August, though it can occasionally take place in September. The festival was inaugurated in 2008 by Jorge Fernández Torres with the support of the Oficina de Desarrollo Cultural of the Ponce Municipal Government.

The festivities are primarily hosted at Plaza Las Delicias, Ponce's central square, although they are sometimes held at Parque Ecológico Urbano. Ponce has earned the moniker "La Ciudad de las Quenepas" (The City of Genips) because many residents cultivate this fruit in their backyards.

During the festival, attendees can enjoy a wide array of activities, including arts and crafts, food stalls, folkloric music, games, and a farmers market where quenepas are sold. One of the highlights is a competition for the most innovative dish made with quenepas. Various genip-inspired treats are available, such as cakes, custards, juices, jellies, frappes, and even rice dishes.
