Șirul Canonicilor, Oradea
Facts and practical information
The Canon's Row is a monument of Baroque architecture in Oradea. It is composed of 57 arches forming a corridor over 250 metres long linking 10 buildings. It was built between 1758 and 1875, after the design of the architect F.A. Hillebrandt. By 1780 the first 7 of the 10 buildings had been erected, two more buildings were completed in 1863, and the tenth was completed in 1875, more than 100 years after the first building was begun. The original phase of the building complex included a Roman Catholic theological seminary, but it was never built here.
Together with the Roman-Catholic Basilica and the Bishop's Palace, they constitute the Baroque Complex of Oradea.
