Avtozavodskij park Kultury i otdyha, Nizhny Novgorod
Facts and practical information
Avtozavodsky park is a park in Nizhny Novgorod. It was founded in 1935 and has an area - 69.9 hectares, including 2 artificial ponds of 12.5 hectares.
The boundaries of the park were defined as part of the Avtozavodsky District planning project in 1931. Before the beginning of construction, the swampy territory of the future park had mostly sparse natural greenery: birches, willows, poplars. Initially, there was no separate decree on the allocation of any land for the park of culture. Its territory was formed during the general planning of the "Sotsgorod" microdistrict.
Avtozavodsky Park is a monument of landscape architecture. It has preserved the original regular layout, multi-row lime alleys, a system of fountains, flower parterres and wide alleys intended for public events. The park is a vivid illustration of the architectural and planning principles developed in the 1930s, which were further developed in the 1940s-1950s.
