Red Square, Moscow

Red Square, the iconic heart of Moscow, stands as a testament to Russia's historical and cultural magnificence. This expansive cobblestone square, measuring 330 meters in length and 70 meters in width, has been the epicenter of Russian state affairs, public gatherings, and ceremonies for centuries.

Enclosed by the Kremlin's majestic walls to the west, the colorful onion domes of St. Basil's Cathedral to the south, the grandeur of the GUM department store to the east, and the imposing State Historical Museum to the north, Red Square is a showcase of Russian architecture and power. Its name, "Krasnaya Ploshchad" in Russian, originally meant "beautiful square" but has come to be interpreted as "red square" in modern times.

The site has witnessed pivotal events in Russian history, from coronations to military parades, and it continues to be a central space for significant political and cultural events. It is also the final resting place of Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin, whose embalmed body lies in the Lenin Mausoleum on the square's western edge.
