Facts About Dent's mona monkey
Dent’s mona monkey is an Old World monkey belonging to the Cercopithecidae family. These monkeys are predominantly found in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Congo, Rwanda, western Uganda, and the Central African Republic.
For a long time, Dent’s mona monkey was considered a subspecies of Wolf’s mona monkey (Cercopithecus wolfi). However, the scientific community remains undecided on whether it should be classified as a distinct species or continue as a subspecies. Further research is required, particularly in the forests between the Lualaba and Lomami rivers. This region, located south of the confluence of the Congo and Lomami rivers, hosts Dent’s mona monkey, Wolf’s mona monkey, and another subspecies known as Cercopithecus wolfi elegans. Investigating these monkeys within this specific area could provide the clarity needed for more accurate classification.
