Popara

Popara, also known as papara in Turkish, is a cherished dish that utilizes stale bread and is enjoyed in numerous countries, including Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Turkey, and Montenegro. It offers an excellent way to repurpose old bread into a hearty meal.

There are two primary versions of Popara. The first version employs stale bread with a thick crust, hot water or tea, a bit of butter, a teaspoon of sugar or honey, and some cheese. You can choose from various types of cheese, such as sirene, kaymak, feta, white cheese, or any local variety you prefer.

The second version is made with stale bread and hot milk, along with a teaspoon of sugar or honey.

Both versions are straightforward yet gratifying, making the most of basic ingredients to create a comforting and traditional dish.
