Facts About Hartmann's mountain zebra
The Hartmann's mountain zebra, a subspecies of the mountain zebra, inhabits the far southwestern regions of Angola and western Namibia. These extraordinary creatures typically form small groups of 7 to 12 members. They are renowned for their exceptional ability to navigate steep, mountainous terrain and to thrive in dry, arid conditions.
There has been some debate over whether the Hartmann's mountain zebra should be classified as a separate species from the Cape mountain zebra. However, genetic studies have not supported this notion. Consequently, since 2005, the Mammal Species of the World does not recognize Hartmann's mountain zebra as a distinct species.
