The Wolkberg Sandman, scientifically known as *Spialia secessus*, is a captivating butterfly belonging to the Hesperiidae family. This species is typically found fluttering across high savannahs and montane grasslands, ranging from Eswatini to northern KwaZulu-Natal, eastern Limpopo Province, Mpumalanga, and even into Zimbabwe. Its name honors the Wolkberg mountain range.
Male Wolkberg Sandmen have wingspans between 27 and 31 mm, while females are slightly larger, with wingspans ranging from 30 to 32 mm. These butterflies are active from July through March, reaching their peak activity from September to November during the wet season and again in February during the dry season. Remarkably, they are not limited to a single generation per year; multiple generations of these enchanting butterflies emerge throughout the year.
