Torre del Caracol, Benavente
Facts and practical information
The Caracol Tower is an architectural construction located in the Spanish town of Benavente.
It is a tower that was part of the Castillo de la Mota de Benavente, one of the few parts that remain standing of the immense and luxurious castle-palace that the Pimentel family owned in this town. In its heyday it was one of the most important and sumptuous palaces in Spain. The extension of its gardens covered a large part of the valley through which the river Órbigo flows, which extends at its feet. There are still preserved many fountains and sculptures belonging to this garden, almost all of them in private hands.
