Rasos de Peguera
Facts and practical information
Nestled in the heart of the Pre-Pyrenees in Spain, Rasos de Peguera stands as a testament to Catalonia's rich skiing heritage. Though no longer in operation, this ski area holds a special place in the history of Spanish winter sports. Established in the early 20th century, Rasos de Peguera was the first ski resort in the region and one of the earliest in Spain, attracting enthusiasts from across the country.
Situated at an elevation that ranges between 1,850 and 2,050 meters, Rasos de Peguera was once a bustling hub for skiers and snowboarders. Its slopes offered a variety of runs suitable for different skill levels, and the area was renowned for its scenic beauty and the quality of its snow. The resort featured several lifts, including chairlifts and surface lifts, which provided access to its alpine terrain.
In its heyday, Rasos de Peguera was not just a winter destination but also a center for competitions and events that contributed to the growth of winter sports in the region. It played a pivotal role in nurturing the passion for skiing among the local population and helped to establish a winter sports culture in Catalonia.
However, as newer and more modern ski resorts emerged, Rasos de Peguera faced increasing competition. The challenges of climate change, with less predictable snowfall patterns, also affected the viability of the resort. After decades of operation, the lifts at Rasos de Peguera ceased to run, and the area now remains a silent witness to the evolution of skiing in Spain.
