Roque Chinobre, Macizo de Anaga
Facts and practical information
Piedra Chinobre is a volcanic rock or piton located in the massif of Anaga, on the island of Tenerife -Canary Islands, Spain- that reaches an altitude of 910 meters above sea level. The Piedra Chinobre together with the Anambro rock establish the southern border of the integral natural reserve of Pijaral, and constitute two singular elements of the landscape, of scientific, geological and geomorphological interest.
Although in the past it was accessible on foot along a narrow path and from it you could have a panoramic view of the entire Anaga massif, its ascent has been prohibited because at the apex of the rock, occupying a small area, grows one of the few populations of the Anaga violet Viola anagae, an endemism of the island very scarce that can only be found in the surroundings of this rock, being the top of this the only place where it is abundant.
