The castle of El Collao was an early medieval castle, dated between the eighth and twelfth centuries, located on the hill of El Collao at 96 meters above sea level, which would give its name to the fortress, in the town of Escobedo, having been the largest of about thirty that there were of this type in Cantabria. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest on 6th May 2003, it was excavated using modern criteria; it is on public land and can be visited. Its location affords great views over the bay of Santander, the Pas valley and part of the Camargo valley. It has a viewpoint.
