In the Hemishofen mine accident, ten members of the Grenzschützenkompanie II/261 of the Swiss Army were killed by the explosion of stored land mines in the "Tschungel" grove south of the Hemishofen railroad bridge on June 17, 1944. The site of the accident is in the municipality of Wagenhausen.
