Facts About Mi krop
Mi Krop is an exquisite Thai dish that translates to "crisp noodles." It features rice noodles coated in a sweet sauce, perfectly balanced with a hint of acidity, often derived from lemon or lime. The dish achieves its distinctive sour and citrusy flavor from the peel of a Thai citrus fruit known as som sa.
Legend has it that King Rama V discovered this dish when he caught the irresistible aroma of noodles being stir-fried by a Chinese immigrant named Chin Li in the Talad Phlu area. Intrigued, the king paused his boat to sample the noodles and was so impressed that he helped popularize the dish, which later became known as Mi Krop Ror Ha in his honor.
In Bangkok, two renowned restaurants are celebrated for their Mi Krop. One is located in Talad Phlu on the Thon Buri side, and the other is in Phra Nakhon, near the Giant Swing and Bangkok City Hall. Both establishments serve traditional recipes that date back to the reign of King Rama V, adding a rich cultural and historical significance to this cherished Thai dish.
