When Is the Best Time To Visit Thailand?

The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Thailand depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.

Climate of Thailand

Thailand is located in a zone of several climatic belts. Most of the country lies in a humid tropical climate zone with a monsoon circulation, the Malay Peninsula is an area with a humid equatorial climate, and areas of the Korat Plain are characterized by a dry variety of tropical climate.

A typical feature of Thailand's tropical weather is frequent and heavy rains. Annual rainfall is as follows: the Menam Plain receives an average of 1,300 mm of rain per year, the south and west coast receive the most rainfall - about 5,000 mm; drier areas are equally Korat (800 mm - 1,000 mm) and the mountain slopes of northern Thailand (1,000 mm).

Temperatures throughout the year in most areas are high, oscillating between 20°C - 32°C. The exception is the mountainous areas in the north of the country, where it is sometimes cooler, averaging 14°C - 20°C.

In Thailand, depending on the region, several seasons (seasons) can be distinguished.

In the northern and central parts of the country, three seasons are distinguished. Cool season (November-February): it is warm and pleasant, the daytime temperature should not exceed 28°C - 32°C. Hot season (March-April): it gets muggy and hot, and thermometers can reach up to 40°C. The rainy season (May-October): rainfall intensifies, resulting in the entire region's stunning greenery and lush vegetation, but frequent rains can make sightseeing and hiking difficult.

Thailand's southwestern coast observes only two seasons. The hot season is between January and April, when it is warm and dry. In contrast, the rainy season occurs from May to December, bringing frequent rainfall, high humidity and storms, making boat trips difficult.

The east coast is the rainiest region of the country. The time from May to October has been dominated by monsoon rains culminating in August. Milder weather is experienced around Pattaya and Ko Samet islands - some of the drier places in the country. The dry season here lasts from November to April and is the best time to visit this part of Thailand.

Thailand's southeast coast has a slightly different pattern of seasons than the rest of the country. The hot season is extremely short-lived, lasting only from February to April, and is cooler than on the west coast. The rainy season, on the other hand, lasts longer - from May to January. Precipitation is less intense and occurs on sunny and warm days. The climax of the monsoon occurs in November, since it rains frequently then, this is the only time when it is not worth going to Ko Samui and the surrounding islands.
