Monument to the glorious defenders of Poltava and the commandant of the fortress, Oleksiy Kelin, is a monument commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Poltava. The monument was erected on June 27, 1909 at the site of the 4th Bastion of the Poltava Fortress. It was located on the corner of Pershotravensky Avenue, Shevchenko Street and Sadovaya Street. The monument is a grand plinth on the pedestal. On the plinth - the bronze old coat of arms of Poltava, near the foot - a bronze figure of the left, on the pedestal - the plinth with memorial writings. Until 1918 the monument was crowned by a bronze sculpture of a two-headed eagle. It is enclosed by a fence of cultural nuclei, which are interconnected by a lancet. Authors - architect O.O. Bilderling, sculptor O.L. Ober. During the Nazi occupation the bronze details were taken away to Germany. In 1947-1949 the monument was re-installed in Leningrad and its height was increased. Restored in 1949.
