Spici 1863m
Facts and practical information
Shpitsy is one of the peaks of the mountain massif Chornogora. It is located in Verkhovyna district of Ivano-Frankivsk region, within the Carpathian National Nature Park.
Height of the mountain - 1863 m. It lies in the central part of the Chornogorsky massif, a few kilometers to the north-east of the main ridge, and is connected to it by a hollow hollow.
Spits is one of the most fascinating mountains in the Carpathians. Its northern slopes are outstripped by 20-50 meter high rock outcrops, which look like spits.
Skeletons, according to some data, there are as many as 15 rows, formed mainly of Oligocene Magurian fossils, and are the results of the ancient mountain glaciation, which took place in the Carpathians in the Quaternary period.
At the eastern end of the mountain is a large basin of the Danzig mountain, bordered by the Great and Small Kizli ridges. Slightly to the right, in the direction to the north of Shpitsy, is visible mountain Gomul, and even more to the right, to the north-west - the mountain Velika Marishevska. On the east there is Mount Brebeneskul, which is the second highest peak not only of Chornogory, but also of the whole Ukraine. On the eastern slopes of the Spits, there is an ice hollow, grandiose in its size and beauty, which is also called the Ґadzina mountain range. It is created by the skeletal structures of the Spits and Rebra mountains. It is here, according to local inhabitants, where Oleksa Dovbush, the leader of the oprichniks, was buried. Here in 1878 was established and worked the first in the Ukrainian Carpathians prihistok for tourists, named after Jan Gregorovich, one of the founders of the Tatra Association in Kolomiya. And the first highway to Spica Mountain was established in 1884. In the mountain area, tourists are rare, but in the summertime shepherds come there to graze their sheep, horses and cows.
Spitzi Mountain is covered with grassy and woody alpine bows. There are rare flora species such as linnya pivnichna, alpine bilotka, Sosurea alpine, cortusa Matthioli, etc. Also on the slopes of the mountain you can come across a valuable plant - Clusia nigra, which belongs to the endangered species and therefore is protected. There are a lot of blueberries and lingonberries.
Every now and then on the skeleton of the Spitsy Mountains alpinists come, although not as much as, for example, on the Dovbush Skeleton in Bubnyshchy.
In view of its uniqueness it would be appropriate to distinguish the Shpitsi mountain as a separate and special nature conservation area.
