Finnieston Crane, Glasgow

The Finnieston Crane stands as an enduring testament to Glasgow's industrial heritage and serves as a prominent landmark on the city's skyline. Also known as the Stobcross Crane, this massive cantilever structure was completed in 1932, primarily used for loading cargo, particularly steam locomotives, onto ships for export around the globe.

Located on the north bank of the River Clyde, the Finnieston Crane is one of the only four such cranes remaining on the river, symbolizing the city's engineering prowess and its past as a world leader in trade and shipbuilding. With a lifting capacity of 175 tons, it was once an essential tool for the heavy lifting required in the transportation industry.

The crane, standing at 49 meters tall with a 77-meter cantilever jib, is no longer operational but remains a beloved sight in Glasgow. The structure’s significance is such that it has been categorized as a Category A listed building, signifying its importance as part of Scotland's built heritage.
