Facts About Ice cream cone
An ice cream cone, also known as a poke or cornet, is a delightful, cone-shaped pastry made from a wafer that allows you to enjoy ice cream without needing a bowl or spoon. There are several types of ice cream cones to choose from, including wafer cones, waffle cones, and sugar cones. Unique variations, such as pretzel cones and double wafer cones, also exist.
The concept of edible cones dates back to the early 19th century. French cookbooks and recipes by culinary experts like Agnes B. Marshall mentioned them. In the early 1900s, Italian entrepreneurs even filed patents for these tasty cones. The ice cream cone gained widespread popularity thanks to events like the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, where a waffle vendor's product was used to hold ice cream, making it an instant sensation.
With this rise in popularity, machines were invented to mass-produce ice cream cones. Frederick Bruckman created a cone-rolling machine, and Nabisco later acquired his company. Some ice cream brands, like Ben & Jerry's, chose to produce their own cones. Innovations continued; J.T. "Stubby" Parker introduced pre-filled cones, and Spica developed insulated waffle cones, eventually leading to the famous Cornetto brand.
In 1979, David Weinstein made a significant contribution with his patented packaging design. By wrapping ice cream cones in wax paper, he made them easier to transport and more hygienic. Today, ice cream cones are a beloved treat, so much so that Missouri declared the ice cream cone its official state food in 2008.
