Nilljochhütte
Facts and practical information
The Nilljochhütte is a privately operated, managed category II refuge above the Virgental valley, in East Tyrol, Austria. It is located on the southern flank of the Großvenediger massif in the Hohe Tauern National Park. The house was rebuilt from 2009 to 2010 on the site of the old Niljochhütte and opened on June 19, 2010.
The hut is located below the Bonn-Matreier Hütte and, like the latter, can be used as a starting point for tours in the southern Venediger Group, such as to the Wunspitze. A variant of the Venediger Höhenweg leads past the hut. The ascent from the Virgen Valley to the Nilljoch Hut is problem-free and easily accessible for children and seniors.
