The Hallstatt Altar of the Virgin Mary in the southern section of the double choir of the late Gothic Catholic parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Hallstatt in the Salzkammergut region of Upper Austria is a pentaptych, a convertible altar with a main shrine, two movable outer wings, and two movable inner wings that allow the altar to alternate between three different display sides. The shrine is decorated with sculptures, the inner wings are decorated with reliefs on the front and back sides, and the outer wings have painting panels on both sides. The sculptures and reliefs are extensively gilded. The altar, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, was created around 1510-20 in the workshop of Leonhard Astl and is one of the most important and elaborate late Gothic winged altars in Upper Austria.
