Facts and practical information
The Gjaidalm is a 3000-hectare alpine pasture in the municipality of Obertraun in the Austrian province of Upper Austria. Owned by the Austrian Federal Forests, the alp is located in the Dachstein Mountains, at an altitude of 1738 meters above sea level. About 20 cattle are herded on a pasture area of 30 hectares. The shelter of the same name, the former Schilcherhaus, offers overnight accommodation. Archaeological excavations have been carried out in its surroundings, which lie in the middle of the Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut UNESCO World Heritage Site.
