Facts About Brutal Assault
Brutal Assault is an open-air extreme metal festival held at the historic 18th-century Josefov Fortress in Jaroměř, Czech Republic. This four-day event typically takes place from Wednesday to Saturday in early August.
The festival originated in 1996, initially focusing on grindcore and predominantly featuring Czech and Slovak bands. Over the years, it has expanded considerably. By 2006, the festival attracted over 7,000 attendees, and by 2012, that number had more than doubled to 15,000. Presently, Brutal Assault showcases a diverse range of extreme metal, punk rock, and experimental rock, drawing renowned artists from these genres. The festival proudly promotes a message of "Against violence and intolerance."
Set against the backdrop of the Josefov Fortress, built by Emperor Joseph II in the late 18th century, the festival's two main stages offer an impressive and atmospheric setting. However, attendees should be mindful of safety concerns, such as theft from tents and navigating the muddy "hill of death" on the festival grounds. It is advisable to secure valuables and exercise caution, particularly when intoxicated. The site is also accessible to disabled visitors.
In 2014, the festival featured headline acts like Slayer, Amon Amarth, Satyricon, and Venom, among others. Despite a few bands canceling after being initially announced, the event was still a resounding success.
