Velhartice is a castle in the village of the same name in the Klatovy district. It stands on a rocky promontory above the left bank of the Ostružná River at an altitude of 640 metres. It was founded at the end of the thirteenth century by the Lords of Velhartice. The castle is dominated by the ruins of the palace called the Paradise House and the Putna Tower, between which a unique stone bridge leads.
The castle, which is open to the public, is owned by the state and managed by the National Heritage Institute. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 1964 and was declared a national cultural monument in 2001.
