Synagoga
Facts and practical information
The synagogue in the town of Volyně in the district of Strakonice is located in the former Jewish street, today Žižkov Street. It was built as one of the few in the Empire style in 1838-1840 on the site of the new ghetto, and was renovated in 1890. Above the entrance is a shield with a Hebrew inscription and lions holding a shield with a clock. Services were held in the synagogue until World War II.
In 1956 the building was converted into a cinema and is currently used as a disco, and the south wing houses the local primary art school. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
