St. Peter's Church
Facts and practical information
The Saint-Pierre church is a Catholic parish church, located in Nanteuil-le-Haudouin, in the department of Oise, in France. It is of primitive gothic style and dates from the third quarter of the XIIth century. It is a robust and austere construction, whose exterior is practically undecorated except for the portals, and whose interior displays a heavy style that corresponds very little to the architecture of the time. As the two strong octagonal turrets in front of the western façade indicate, the building belongs to the group of fortified churches and is one of the very few representatives of this type in the region. It is this particularity that makes its archaeological value, as well as the very atypical vault supports inside. The western portal was classified as a historical monument by order of July 27, 1908; the rest of the church and the bell tower were registered by order of November 8, 1966. Today, the church of Saint-Pierre is at the center of the parish of Notre-Dame de la Visitation du Haudouin, which extends over fifteen communes. Sunday masses are celebrated in the church of Saint-Pierre every Sunday at 11:00 am.
