Église Saint-Antoine-du-Désert de Maurin
Facts and practical information
The church of Saint-Antoine-du-Désert is a church located in Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye, at the isolated end of the valley towards the sources of the Ubaye, in France. After the high geological lock of the Blachière, a group of several hamlets close to each other, La Barge, Maljasset, Combe-Brémont, St Bernard occupied this difficult to access valley. Far away, they were more than an hour's walk away, in summer, from all other inhabited areas. It is for this reason that in 1431 the erection of this community into a parish succeeded. At that time all the inhabitants had to go down to Serenne like the inhabitants of Fouillouse to join their priest who sometimes went to their bedside.
