Facts About Olive Striped Frog
Phlyctimantis leonardi is a frog species belonging to the Hyperoliidae family, indigenous to west-central Africa. These frogs are found in countries such as Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, and parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. There is also a possibility that they inhabit the Cabinda enclave of Angola. They may be closely related to another species, Phlyctimantis verrucosus, exhibiting gradual variation across regions. These frogs are medium to large in size, characterized by smooth skin.
Their typical habitats include secondary forests, open forest clearings, and farm bushes. During the breeding season, they prefer grassy areas with temporary pools, which are more open compared to the dense forests favored by other species in their family. Although Phlyctimantis leonardi is both common and adaptable, they struggle to survive in completely deforested areas.
Interestingly, some individuals in Cameroon have tested positive for the Bd fungus, which causes chytridiomycosis. Despite this, there have not been any reported mortalities or negative effects on this species to date.
