Self-portrait

Giorgione's self-portrait is a captivating painting that many believe could be an authentic work by the renowned Italian artist. This intriguing piece is located at the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest. There is ongoing debate among art experts regarding its authenticity. Should it indeed be Giorgione's creation, it likely draws inspiration from his earlier work, "Self-Portrait as David" produced around 1509-1510 and currently housed in the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum in Brunswick, Germany.

Adding to its storied history, the painting was stolen on November 5, 1983. Thankfully, it was later recovered during an operation aptly named "Operation Budapest."
