Honey production in Hungary

Honey production is essential to Hungary's food supply and local industry, underscoring its importance in the region. As one of the European Union's leading producers of natural honey, Hungary produced approximately 19,700 tonnes in 2005. The country boasts about 15,000 beekeepers, who primarily export their honey throughout Europe. Despite the significant volume of exports, Hungarians still consume around 5,000 tonnes of their locally produced honey.

Hungary is particularly renowned for its Robinia pseudoacacia, or acacia flower honey. Additionally, Hungarian beekeepers harvest honey from a diverse array of other flowers, including milkweed, sunflowers, and various fruit trees. This broad spectrum of honey sources solidifies Hungary's reputation as a major player in the honey industry.
