Honey production is essential to Hungary's food supply and local industry, underscoring its importance in the region. As one of the European Union's leading producers of natural honey, Hungary produced approximately 19,700 tonnes in 2005. The country boasts about 15,000 beekeepers, who primarily export their honey throughout Europe. Despite the significant volume of exports, Hungarians still consume around 5,000 tonnes of their locally produced honey.
