When Is the Best Time To Visit Indonesia?
The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Indonesia depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.
Bali: Tourist Season & Weather
Plan your vacation on the island from May to October, when it is a dry season. However, we can expect the best weather in July and August. This is the peak of tourist season and the best time for all kinds of activities, from sunbathing and sea bathing through sightseeing to mountain hiking and climbing to the highest peak of the island volcano Gunung Agung.
Also during Christmas and New Year’s Day, the Bali is occupied by tourists willing to spend this time on the island (despite the rainy season).
The rainy season from November to April can be unpredictable. High air temperatures are associated with rains, which can occur both in the form of short, violent rains, but also in the form of all-day rainfall. During this time it is better to give up the rest on the south coast, because in this part of the island the rainfall is greater and more intense. Instead, it is better to go to the North Coast, where a short tropical downpour may occur, but the all-day rainfall is less common.

Season and weather by month
May - October
May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct |
The dry season months from May to October are the best time to visit Bali. During this period, air temperatures are at their highest, about 81°F - 90°F, and air humidity is the lowest during the year – about 60%. Warm and sunny days with not very frequent passing rainfall are an ideal time for sunbathers and water sports enthusiasts. Water temperature above 77°F encourages bathing, diving and surfing. On hot days a cool sea breeze brings respite, creating favorable conditions for lovers of the traditional art of flying kites and kite surfers.
The dry season is also the best time for sightseeing (spectacular rice fields in Tegalalang – 5.6 mi from Ubud) and hiking. However, it is worth remembering that the air temperature in the high mountains around the volcano Gunung Agung is much lower than the rest of the island’s regions and is about 68°F during the day and below 50°F at night.
Those who want to avoid the highest intensity of tourists, overcrowded hotels and beaches should resign from traveling in July and August, when the peak tourist season falls. May and June as well as September and October also guarantee good weather, but more intimate rest.
In June, the „Bali Art Festival” begins, which lasts almost a month, during which you can admire performances and exhibitions from different corners of Indonesia bring closer the traditional art.
November - April
Nov | Dec | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr |
The rainy season is not the best time to travel to Bali. High humidity and frequent precipitation can be a problem. The weather may not only make sightseeing more difficult, but also mountain trekking.
On the north coast, sunbathing and bathing are possible because all-day rainfall is rather an exception in this part of the island, but can happen on the south coast.
It is worth knowing that beaches during the rainy season, especially in the south, can be very polluted due to strong sea currents and the rivers that throw litter ashore. Tourists and inhabitants of the island often come to the rescue and organize regular cleanups. More difficult conditions do not discourage surfers, who usually choose the east coast of the island.
Despite the increased rainfall, the Christmas and New Year period is crowded by tourists. Colorful processions appear on the streets, the whole Bali is vibrant with life, and the hotels fill almost to the last room. Whereas January and February are the rainiest months of the year – it usually rains several hours a day.
In March or April, the Nyepi is celebrated – i.e., Balinese Silence Day, and the beginning of the new year.
