Het Noorden, Texel
Facts and practical information
Het Noorden is a polder mill in the polder Het Noorden north of Oosterend on the island of Texel in the province of North Holland.
When the northeastern areas of the island of Texel were reclaimed in 1878, a large windmill proved necessary to drain the area. When it was built, the mill was fitted with an auger. In 1928 the mill was fitted with streamline blades and three screw pumps according to the system of millwright Dekker from Leiden. The mill fell into disuse in the 1960s and in 1970 became the property of the De Hollandsche Molen, which carried out a restoration a few years later. Later two of the three screw pumps were made grindable again. At present, the rods are equipped with the sails and the mill voluntarily grinds the water around in a circuit.
