Tropical gar

The tropical gar is a fascinating fish native to the waters ranging from southern Mexico to Costa Rica. It thrives in a variety of freshwater and brackish environments, including rivers, floodplains, lakes, and pools, although it tends to avoid areas with strong currents.

This impressive fish can grow up to 1.25 meters in length and weigh up to 2.9 kilograms. At first glance, it may resemble the longnose gar due to their similar colors and markings. However, you can distinguish them by their snouts—the tropical gar has a shorter and broader one.

In terms of diet, the tropical gar primarily feeds on cichlids and other fish species.
