Facts About Mami soup
Mami is a cherished Filipino noodle soup made with wheat flour noodles, a savory broth, and either meat or wonton dumplings. Many consider it a type of pancit, a popular category of Filipino noodle dishes.
The origins of mami are typically traced back to Ma Mon Luk, a Chinese immigrant who introduced his version of noodle soup to Binondo, Manila, around 1920. Initially, he named his creation "gupit" derived from the Tagalog word for "cut." He later renamed it "Ma mi" which translates to "Ma's noodles" in Chinese characters.
Unfortunately, Ma Mon Luk did not trademark the name "mami." As a result, many imitation noodle soups with similar names began to appear, making it difficult for people to distinguish between the original and its copies. This led to some confusion and diluted the uniqueness of Ma Mon Luk's original recipe.
