Durbaszka
Facts and practical information
Durbaszka - a not very prominent mountain peak in the Lesser Pieniny. It is located in the main ridge of the Little Pieniny and the Slovak-Polish border runs through it.
Durbáška from the southern, Slovak side is completely covered with forest. In this forest there are limestone rocks called Kościelnymi Rocks. From the clearances between the trees in places nice views of the Tatras. On the ridge, and on the northern, Polish side there are large Polłoniny descending to the Grajcarek valley. Before the World War II these were the farming areas of Lemkos from Jaworki village. Here were grazed cattle on the meadows, some slopes were ploughed. After the war and displacement of Lemkos, socialist production cooperative was established. Big shepherd's hut no. 1 was built on the height of 835 m. However, it turned out to be impractical, and when the cooperatives collapsed and the shepherd's hut was deteriorating, it was decided to adapt it for a scout base. Currently it is a thoroughly modernized shelter under Durbaszka and a GOPR rescue point.
From the upper, forestless part of the Durbaszka ridge there are wide views of the Radziejowa Range and the Pieniny Proper. Currently herds of sheep are grazed here by shepherds from Podhale. You can descend the unmarked path and the road next to the hostel to the road Jaworki - Szczawnica, just by the parking lot before the Homole Gorge. By the road there are several groups of limestone rocks, including Soltysie Skały, Czerszlowe Skałki, Czerszla and a ski lift.
