Rezerwat Wysokie Skałki

Wysokie Skałki Nature Reserve - a landscape nature reserve in Małopolska province, in the municipality of Szczawnica, located on the highest peak of the Pieniny Mountains - Wysoka. It is located in the area of Small Pieniny, on the border with Slovakia, at an altitude of 900-1050 m. It lies on the land of the State Treasury managed by the Krościenko Forest Inspectorate. It was established in 1961 on the area of 10,91 ha, later it was enlarged to 13,87 ha.

The only preserved in Pieniny fragment of an upper alpine natural spruce forest is protected here. In the years 1947-1957, during the development of the areas abandoned by Lemkos in the Pieniny, it was severely depleted, but after several dozen years it recovered. In the undergrowth and in small unforested areas there are such rare plants as: lily of the golden head, clematis alpina, bearded toad, wolfsbane, buttercup platananthus, mountain larkspur. The fauna of birds is also rich: e.g. owls, common buzzards and lesser spotted eagles nest here.

The reserve also has great scenic value. From the bare top there are impressive views of: Radziejowa Range, Babia Góra, Tatra Mountains and Pieniny. From the eastern side of the top of Wysoka steep limestone rocks with a height of 5-20 m.

The reserve lies within the boundaries of the South Wallachian Protected Landscape Area, which is the buffer zone of the Poprad Landscape Park. Moreover, it is located within the area of Natura 2000 habitat area "Małe Pieniny" PLH120025.

According to the current conservation plan established in 2016, the reserve area is under active protection.
