Rezerwat Kulin, Włocławek
Facts and practical information
Kulin Nature Reserve - a forest reserve established in 1967, located in the northern part of the town of Włocławek, on land managed by the Włocławek Forestry Commission. It is one of the most valuable natural objects in central Poland.
Initially, the area of the reserve was 15.46 ha, but in 2001 its area was enlarged. Currently its area is 50.88 ha. The reserve is under active protection.
In the reserve, situated on unusually picturesque and inaccessible slopes, a specific microclimate was created, which allowed for the formation of biocenoses similar to those of the Ukrainian or Hungarian lowlands. The reserve protects interesting species of thermophilic steppe, bordering, scrub and forest vegetation with the participation of many floristic peculiarities: ash-leaved dipterocarp, John's thistle, multiflorous anemone, rough oman, steppe serpentine, dwarf cherry, as well as several species of xerothermic lichens and many other rare plants. The aim of the reserve is also to protect interesting soils, which have developed in this area, as well as many rare invertebrate animals such as cicadas and snails. An additional advantage of the reserve are rare bird species living there, mainly aquatic, such as: white heron, kingfisher, black stork, crane, but also white-tailed eagle, peregrine falcon and other species of raptors. A particularly distinctive feature of the reserve area is the varied relief - numerous escarpments and ravines, which give the impression of an upland landscape set among lowlands, which attracts the attention of tourists visiting this place.
