Ornak, Tatra National Park
Facts and practical information
Ornak, Pośredni Ornak - one of the peaks of the Ornak mountain ridge in the Western Tatras, separating the upper part of the Kościeliska Valley from the upper part of the Chochołowska Valley.
The long ridge of Ornak has four peaks, rising little above the main ridge. These are from the side of Iwacka Saddle: Suchy Wierch Ornaczański, Ornak, Zadni Ornak and Kotłowa Czuba. From the Dry Wierch Ornaczański Ornak is separated by Wyżnią Ornaczańska Pass, from Zadni Ornak Ornaczańska Pass.
The flat top of Ornak is grassy and somewhat rocky. In the west direction fall from it two perches forming the framework of the Graniczniak gulch, in the east direction not too steep slope, into which below cut the Ornaczanski Gulch troughs. In the past the slopes of Ornak were the grazing area of two pastures: Stara Robota Hall and Ornak Hall. After the cessation of grazing, the lower part has already been overgrown with forest or dwarf mountain pine, part of the slopes is overgrown with grass with reddish shoots of situ skucina, and only the very top is rocky. The already appearing on the slopes clumps of dwarf pine indicate that in the near future the whole slope will be overgrown and typical for the Tatra Mountains vegetation layers will be created. The remnants of the pastoral past are still preserved on maps of the names of former uplazy and other pastoral places on the slopes of Ornak: Skrajna Wolarnia, Wielki Rohacz, Mały Rohacz, Szeroki Upłaz, Pieronisko, Wielkie Dwojaki, Wyżnia Wolarnia, Wyżnie Ornaczańskie.
