Museu Nacional do Desporto, Lisbon
Facts and practical information
The National Sports Museum is located in Palácio Foz, a historic building in a prime area of Lisbon. It exhibits testimonies of the history and culture of sports and its material and scientific development.
Rosa Mota's jersey, Nelson Évora's boots or the Grand-Bi, the predecessor of the bicycle, are some of the pieces present in the National Sports Museum. Inaugurated on July 12, 2012, the year Portugal celebrated 100 years of participation in the Olympic Games, the space is the result of a public invitation to sports federations to showcase the heritage left behind by athletes and the various sports disciplines.
The Museum also houses the National Sports Library.

Examples are: the book "De Arte Gymnastica" by Hieronymi Mercurialis, 1577 - considered the first sports book published in the world -, or the "Arte da Caça da Altanaria" by D. Francisco de Mello, 1616 - one of the first books with a sports theme related to hunting -, the "Tratado de educação física dos meninos, para uso da Nação Portuguesa" by Francisco de Manuel Franco, published by the Royal Academy of Sciences, 1740, or "Ginnastica Femminil" by F.
