Facts and practical information
Brestowa - a peak with a height of 1934 m a.s.l. in the Slovak Western Tatras. It is located in the main ridge between Salatin Wierch, from which the extreme Salatin pass, and Zuberski Wierch is separated.
It is the main orographic node of the entire Salatin group. There is another poorly distinguished peak in the main borders between Brestowa and Zuberski Wierch - Brestowa Kopa. In the north direction, the lateral, 3-kilometer ridge of the extreme Salatin, separating two side valleys from each other: the Salatin Valley from Salatin's gully. On the southern side of the Brest and Little Brestowa ridge there is a small, overgrowing dwarf valley, called the Rusty valley.
Brestowa is made of granite-gneissed rocks. Top and grassy slopes, bottom - especially from the north - rocky. In the past they were pasture areas. Cucina growing on them is already brown at the end of summer, which gives the slopes red color. From the discovered top and the ridge, extensive views. The nearby person and Siwy Wierch and the entire Rohacka valley with the peaks rising above it are particularly well seen.
In 1861, Kazimierz Łapczyński carried out traversing the summit.
The massif has a lot of skiing. At his foot in the Salatina Valley there is a ski lift. During World War II, there was a guerrilla hospital on the slopes of Brestowa in the forest hut. Wounded Slovak and Russian partisans, after the Germans were broken up by the Germans, found themselves in a difficult situation. In February 1945, they were saved by the TOPR expedition, which in severe snow conditions transported them through the Łucznian pass to Zakopane.
